Kake sits on the northwest shore of Kupreanof Island, a short hop from Juneau by air and a longer, quieter run by boat through Keku Strait. Plan for weather holds. A flexible afternoon on either side of your flight is wiser than a tight same-day connection.
Bring layers, a dry bag for electronics, and cash or a card that works offline. The village store and fuel dock keep regular hours, but they are not a city mall. If you need a special grocery or a prescription refill, sort that in Juneau or Sitka first.
Respect private docks, smokehouses, and subsistence sets. Ask before you photograph people or ceremonial work. The totem and public paths are the right place to start a first walk.

If your party is arriving with freight for a family gathering, tell the lodge and, if a skiff is involved, the Harbor Department. That keeps the city float from turning into a storage lot on a barge afternoon.
